The Rockport-Fulton Independent School District board voted unanimously on Nov. 10 to adopt the 2025–26 property tax rate at a total of 0.7669, consisting of 0.6769 for maintenance and operations and 0.09 for interest and sinking. The motion passed 7–0.
The action came during a special meeting called at 5:30 p.m. A staff member told the board it needed to readopt the 2025–26 rate because an alternative proposal had not prevailed and that acting before official county returns was acceptable. "We talked with the [county]; that was fine," the staff member said.
Board discussion briefly turned to the math and phrasing used in earlier motions. One board member restated the figures and said the total represented "effectively a 3.26%" change; other members and staff clarified the total rate as 0.7669 and noted the 2025–26 rate is lower than the previously approved August 2025 figure of 0.7812, attributing part of the decrease to payoff of some district debt.
After short discussion, a board member moved to adopt the rate as proposed and another seconded the motion. The presiding speaker called the vote and recorded the motion as carrying 7–0.
The board recessed into executive session later in the meeting and then reconvened and adjourned at 6:11 p.m.
