County clerk introduces free fraud-alert service for land-records searches

County Clerk Christina Lutz told the committee the clerk's office integrated with USLandRecords.com to offer a free fraud-alert service for residents concerned about unauthorized filings. The county previously placed county records online in 2020; that availability prompted constituent concerns, especially among older residents.
Lutz said the county paid one-time integration fees from recording-related revenue (back-scan and recording fees) and that the service will be available at no cost to residents. Users must register names (for example, Joe or Joseph) on the Seneca County page of the vendor site; when a new instrument is recorded, the system will email the registrant and provide steps for contacting the clerk's office if the filing was not authorized. Lutz said she will coordinate a press release and work with IT to add a direct link on the county website.
