District staff presented and the Springdale School District board approved the district's six-year master facilities plan, which lists prioritized repairs, replacements and new facility projects across multiple schools.
The plan, presented at the meeting by a district staff member, is built on a two-year cycle and identifies projects including replacement of Jones Elementary (building opened 1959; estimated construction $25,000,000; estimated state participation $11,200,000), Westwood Elementary upgrades (opened 1959; estimated construction $27,000,000; estimated state participation $11,100,000), athletics and facility improvements at Springdale High School, a large multipurpose facility at Harbor High School, and a secured-entry project at TG Smith. Staff said some costs remain to be determined and that the district plans to rescind and reapply for state funding on some projects in the next cycle.
"So this master plan, it looks at facility needs and strategy to address the needs," the district staff member said, summarizing the plan's purpose. The presentation included projected construction cycles (for example, several stadium improvements listed for 2028 and larger multipurpose facilities targeted in 2030) and a proposed $120,000 freezer addition for the district triage pantry slated for 2026 construction.
Board members asked clarifying questions about the plan's status and timetable. A board member noted the master plan itself does not create applications or funding commitments. The district staff member said projects can be moved earlier or later "depending on the project" and added that moving a project up can strengthen applications for partnership funding.
When the board moved to approve the facilities plan, the motion was presented and seconded; meeting remarks recorded the motion as made by Board member Mrs. Creek with a second from Board member Mr. Ramos. The board approved the plan by voice vote ("Aye" recorded) and the presiding official stated "Motion passes."
The approved master plan will serve as the district's prioritized list for facility needs and for seeking state or partner funding in future application cycles. Several projects list estimated costs and target construction cycles, but the district said some project budgets and timelines remain to be finalized and will be subject to future adjustments and funding decisions.
