Resident questions field house bids and urges board to prioritize academics and student services

A board member said the district’s debt service is “approximately 6 and a half to 7% of our annual budget” and described the timing as favorable given recent budget and audit information.
The board emphasized that the field house is intended not only for high-school athletics but also for broader youth and community programs, and that the district has invested in multiple building improvements in recent years. Trustees said they aim to present a “complete package” covering academics and athletics and that the board is taking a “serious hard look” at the project’s scope, timing and costs.
The board did not take a vote on the field house during the meeting; the discussion concluded with staff offering to provide further budget details and to continue review in subsequent meetings.
