On regional resource issues, Commissioner Martinez briefed the commission on the Colorado River Compact negotiations. Martinez said the Upper Basin commissioners “are meeting daily,” that negotiators aim to avoid “a call on the compact,” and described competing interpretations of the “natural flow” concept and ongoing work on curtailment and conservation. Martinez also highlighted that MTAB discussed a proposed $250,000 special events cooperative marketing grant for 2026 to be distributed in two batches to spread funds across seasons and events.
Chair remarks at the UAC conference noted ongoing state discussions about a roughly $54 million set-aside at the CIB that officials are considering for large transport or port projects; the chair said the size of that fund has attracted broad interest at the state level. Commissioners praised joint federal-state discussions about visitor use management and resources protection and underscored the need for cooperative solutions across agencies.
