Salt Lake City 6 The City Council on Tuesday adopted a joint resolution recognizing the Utah Parent Teacher Association (PTA) on its 100th anniversary and heard remarks from local PTA leaders about volunteer programs that support students and families.
Council Member Young read the resolution noting that Utah joined the National Congress of Parents and Teachers in October 1925 and that the Utah PTA remains a major volunteer child-advocacy organization in the state. Council Member Pui moved to adopt the resolution; Council Member Dugan seconded, and the chair called the motion passed.
Fiona Robinson, identified as SLC PTA Council Treasurer, told the council that PTA volunteers help stock student food pantries, host family engagement nights and support classroom activities. "There is a place for everyone in the PTA," Robinson said, describing the local council theme as "Salt Lake City strong, united in purpose, diverse in approach."
The council posed no substantive policy questions during the ceremonial item. The resolution is honorary and does not create binding city policy. Representatives posed for a photo with council members after the reading.
The council then moved on to scheduled public hearings and other agenda items.
