Barrow County schools honor student artists, staff and a bus rider who helped in an emergency

Jackson Hensley introduced this year’s district holiday card winners: Mallory Duran from Kennedy Elementary, whose message appears on the right of the card, and Jakyra Mayweather from Apalachee High School, who created the artwork appearing on the left. Art teachers were invited forward for photos.
Bramlett Elementary’s counselor Dawn Boseman was recognized after Mr. Whitworth described her role developing the Eagle Ambassador program; the program helped Bramlett earn the Georgia Association of Elementary School Principals School Bell Award.
County Line Elementary’s custodial team — Solma Mejia, Cindy Guzman, Islay Contreras, Yanira Naba, Alexa Padilla and Ophelina Garcia (Dave Porter noted as absent) — received certificates and remarks from principal Miss Stone praising their leadership and upkeep of the school.
The board also recognized transportation staff and a student: high school student Derek Chung and bus driver Diane Cork were honored for Derek’s calm response and clear radio communication during a medical emergency on a school bus.
Presenters asked staff and families to join for photos; the recognitions concluded before the evening’s presentations and action items.
