The Eastpointe City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to approve a slate of routine contracts, equipment purchases and a $1,000,000 additional contribution to the municipal employees’ pension system.
The council approved a contract for 2025 Sewer Rehabilitation using full‑length CIPP lining with In Situ Form Technologies of Chesterfield, Missouri, in the amount of $302,152.32, and authorized the city manager to execute necessary documents. Council also approved the purchase of a Toro Field Pro 6040 from Spartan Distributors for $32,991.66 under Sourcewell contract no. 31121TTC and a five‑year financing agreement with Motorola Solutions for the replacement of citywide radios.
Why it matters: the sewer contract, equipment purchases and radio replacement are tied to city infrastructure and public‑safety operations; the pension contribution affects long‑term liabilities and the city’s FY26 budget.
Council minutes show the sewer figure includes engineering costs and a 10% contingency. A motion authorizing an additional $1,000,000 contribution to the MERS pension system and budget amendment BA26‑2 passed by roll call. Separately, the council awarded bond‑counsel services to Miller Canfield and municipal advisory services to Ben Zinski & Company for Clean Water State Revolving Fund sewer project financing and police‑court facility financing.
Council also introduced an ordinance (No. 20‑51252) to amend Chapter 2, Article 2 (bylaws of council) to provide for two public‑comment opportunities at meetings; the measure was given first reading and is scheduled for second reading and adoption at the regular council meeting on Dec. 16, 2025.
Roll‑call voting where recorded showed affirmative votes from Councilmember Baker, Councilmember Curley, Councilmember Shadlick, Councilmember Scott and Mayor Kleinfeld on the items taken up in open session.
The council further approved payments — payrolls and bills — totaling $2,281,106.28.
What’s next: the bylaws amendment will return for a second reading and potential adoption on Dec. 16; the city manager is authorized to execute approved contracts and finance documents as noted. No contested votes or amendments to these items were recorded at the meeting.
