The Itasca Village Board on Oct. 7 approved a low bid of $199,000 from Bergland Construction to perform polyurethane crack routing and sealing at two locations in the village wastewater‑treatment plant.
Trustee Daley, reporting for the capital infrastructure committee, said the work will address cracking in the influent channel and near the sequencing batch reactors. He cited consultant reports from Stanley Consultants that compared observations from 2015 and 2023 and concluded the older cracks have become longer and wider. “The cracks are getting a little bit longer and a little bit wider,” Daley said in presenting the motion to waive a second reading and take final action.
Daley told the board the repair is a programmed budget item for the current fiscal year with an estimated allocation of $265,000; the low, responsible bid of $199,000 is under that budgeted amount. Mike (public works) was identified during discussion as the staff contact for technical questions.
The board voted to approve the contract award and to waive the second reading; trustees present voted in favor and one trustee was absent. Work described in the motion is limited to crack routing and polyurethane sealing at the influent channel and the area near the SBR units.
Next steps include finalizing the contract with Bergland Construction and scheduling the work with village operations and the contractor to minimize impacts on treatment operations.
The vote completes the board’s action on this specific repair project; trustees did not add amendments to the award and no additional funding was requested at the meeting.
