Council adopts 2025 budget amendment to cover street fund overages

The Newcastle City Council on Dec. 2 adopted ordinance 2025-680 to amend the 2025 budget and address projected overages in the city's street fund.
Finance staff (Maria) told the council the amendment (agenda bill 25-90) increases expenditures by $115,000 for the street fund and reduces the ending fund balance by the same amount to remain in budget compliance. She said the increases address three street-fund line items: King County road services (road maintenance and restriping), rising utilities costs related to streets (water, power) and increased expenditures for hazardous-treatment work the city prioritized this year. "Before you is agenda bill 25 90...included budget adjustments to the 2025 budget include an increase in expenditures of a 115,000, and a net decrease in the ending fund balance of 115,000 for street," Maria explained.
Council member Charbonneau moved adoption and the motion was seconded and carried by roll call: "All in favor? Aye." The motion passed unanimously, 7-0.
Next steps: the ordinance takes effect as adopted and staff will implement the line-item adjustments to ensure compliance with the adopted budget.
