Lawrenceburg — The City of Lawrenceburg Utility Board on Dec. 1 received operational updates on three active projects: a Precision Concepts expansion that affects an easement and sewer responsibility, a US 50 water-main project with mixed materials discovered in the alignment, and an urgent repair at Pump Station 13.
Utility director Rob Schneider said the Precision Concepts expansion opened an existing easement containing a sewer line; staff are studying a revision that would shrink the easement and assign responsibility for the sewer within the reduced easement to the property owner while the city’s responsibility would stop at the first manhole on the property’s northern perimeter, allowing the expansion to proceed.
On the US 50 water-main project, staff reported discovery of a plastic section of pipe where the line transitions back to ductile iron at some point on a private property near Lightstone; crews are locating the exact transition so the replacement scope can be determined. One utility speaker said plastic piping is preferable and staff aim to standardize to plastic in the corridor where feasible.
Regarding Pump Station 13, the board was told a Grundfos pump failed and operations are running on one pump; staff will purchase an emergency backup to maintain service while repairs are estimated at 12 weeks. Staff plan a Dec. 10 meeting with the project engineer to evaluate adding upstream solids removal to reduce wear on the station.
What happens next: Staff will continue mapping the US 50 pipe transition, prepare documentation for the Precision Concepts easement change, and proceed with the emergency pump purchase while evaluating solids-removal options with the FNS engineer.
