Summary
The Park and Recreation Commission unanimously approved an Eagle Scout project by Colin Healy to replace three target stands at the city archery range, estimated at $1,900 in materials; Healy will fundraise and plans to install the stands in mid-May, weather permitting.
Colin Healy, a Boy Scout with Troop 226, presented an Eagle Scout project on Nov. 20 to replace three target stands at the archery range at 512 Municipal Drive. Healy said the work would replace the 10-, 20- and 25-yard stands and estimated the materials cost at about $1,900 — roughly $550 per stand — with a small contingency for possible overruns.
"I will be replacing the 10 yard, 20 yard, and 25 yard, archery target stand," Healy said, adding that he plans to fundraise within the community and pursue donor support. Healy told the commission he aimed to complete fundraising by early spring and to begin building in early May, with an installation target of May 16, subject to weather and concrete-pouring conditions.
Commissioners asked that Healy submit a final design to parks staff ("Mike or Dan") for approval and noted the commission’s preferred target-stand style. Staff also noted that the project fits into a broader archery-range revamp funded by a Wisconsin DNR grant; those grant funds will be available after August, staff said.
Speaker 2 moved to approve the project and the commission voted in favor by voice vote. Commissioners wished Healy well on the project before moving to the next agenda item.
The commission’s approval is for the local permit/consent required from the city; Healy indicated fundraising and construction schedules remain contingent on community donations and weather. The parks staff requested the final design for formal sign-off before construction begins.
