The Board of Works voted Dec. 15 to approve four recommended full‑time school resource officers following interviews, physical‑agility tests and written exams.
The four names presented to the board were Nathan Follow‑up, Kurt Knoll, Hunter Schneider and Bobby Mangold. Staff said the police department and mayor's committee reviewed applications, conducted interviews and administered tests; three of the four recommended candidates are scheduled to complete academy training shortly, and the board agreed to restart the search for the remaining vacancy in January.
During the discussion the mayor disclosed a family relationship. "One of the gentlemen is my son‑in‑law, Kurt," the mayor said, noting the connection while expressing support for the hiring steps and the recruitment process that involved the police department.
Board members moved and seconded the recommendation and the motion passed by voice vote. According to the transcript, the appointments are set to become effective Jan. 1, when the city assumes responsibility for school resource officers.
Next steps: the city will complete academy timing for each officer and restart recruitment for the fifth vacancy at the beginning of the year.
