Clay County commissioners hear storm, building and procurement updates and open bids for sheriff vehicles

A county official (S7) said a no‑travel advisory issued during the recent storm was posted Saturday and canceled Sunday morning and offered to notify commissioners directly in future events. Commissioners asked to be kept informed when advisories go out.
Staff provided building project updates: demolition and concrete work were complete in portions of the courthouse remodel, conduit and metal stud work were underway, and asbestos mitigation was beginning in the large courtroom and judge's chambers. Officials said the large courtroom work would disrupt schedules and judges would use a smaller courtroom temporarily.
On procurement, the board approved diesel fuel quotes at $2.87 for a 50/50 blend after a motion and voice vote. The board also opened bids for sheriff patrol vehicles (one bid from Vermillion was received with trade‑in values and total amounts); staff said they would compare the bid to the state contract pricing and discuss surplus vs. trade‑in options before a recommendation at the next meeting.
The board approved an SDSU Extension 4‑H memorandum of understanding by motion and voice vote. Other routine items and meeting logistics were addressed before adjournment.
