Wayne County health officer: MDHHS comprehensive grant initially $14.6M; COVID grant sunsetting explains much of the decline

Commissioner Marecki noted that prior totals had exceeded $21 million; Dr. Sheth explained the apparent reduction was largely due to a COVID‑related grant that sunset and about a $1 million WIC funding decrease. She said the department expects administrative amendments during the year that can add funds for programs omitted from the initial award.
Commissioners asked for context and comparisons to prior years; Dr. Sheth said the department would supply apples‑to‑apples figures showing the initial award and subsequent amendments so the commission could track funding changes.
The committee approved the MDHHS grant agreement; staff said an amendment is already being processed to add some programs that were administratively left out of the initial agreement.
