Summary
Steve Arnold of the Kane County Farm Bureau briefed the committee on holiday toy and pie sales, staff openings, upcoming delegate travel to the Illinois Farm Bureau annual meeting, foundation fundraisers and a submitted Illinois Farm Bureau rural development grant for EV charging stations in Sugar Grove and Elburn.
Steve Arnold, representing the Kane County Farm Bureau, updated the Agriculture Committee on local outreach and foundation activities on Nov. 20.
Arnold promoted a public toy drive and lunch event scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 13 (11 a.m.–4 p.m.) in the farm bureau parking lot, run in partnership with a community Santa project. He said the farm bureau’s foundation recently donated children’s books for distribution during the holidays, is selling fruit and pecan pies for delivery before Thanksgiving, and plans a vintage truck raffle at the Big Rock Plowing Match on Sept. 19, 2026.
Arnold said the county has submitted an Illinois Farm Bureau rural development grant application for electric‑vehicle charging stations in rural Kane County — proposed locations include the Sugar Grove library and a site in Elburn — and that decisions should be known within about 30 days of the Dec. 1 deadline. He also announced two staff openings (engagement director; development and ag‑literacy coordinator) and encouraged committee members to participate in foundation events such as the 25th shopping spree for local food pantries in February 2026 and an April touch‑tractor program.
Committee members sought clarification on the research farm at Route 38 and Peck Road; Arnold said he supports the University of Illinois Extension’s stated interest in reacquiring the property for research and demonstration projects and encouraged potential collaboration with county grants and riverboat funding.
Arnold’s presentation focused on outreach and fundraising rather than policy recommendations; staff and committee members agreed to follow up on grant timelines and coordinate support where appropriate.
