Kane County board member announces resignation; board approves routine business, moves to closed session

Gary Doherty, a long‑serving member of the Kane County Board, told colleagues on Dec. 9 that he will resign before the end of the year due to health concerns and thanked fellow board members and public commenters for their support. "I will be resigning before the end of the year," Doherty said, adding that illness has made it difficult to continue in office.
The board handled routine business and several administrative items. Members approved reappointments to the King County Emergency Telephone System Board (motion and roll call recorded), passed the consent agenda, approved an ordinance second reading and small fiscal resolutions (including a $128.60 travel voucher, resolution 25‑483), and authorized termination of the county office lease at 1750 Grandstand Place in Elgin (resolution 25‑484); roll calls were recorded for each approval.
Earlier in the meeting the chair sought unanimous consent to allow a member to attend remotely; members recorded no objection. Later the board voted to enter closed session to discuss pending and probable imminent litigation and settlement of claims; members and online participants were instructed to exit Zoom and the board convened in closed session.
Doherty closed his remarks by thanking the board and moving to adjourn later in the meeting; the motion to adjourn carried and the board concluded the session.
Several committee updates were provided, including capital work beginning on jail and kitchen renovations and ARPA‑funded HVAC replacements, and staff announced a clerk's office satellite ribbon‑cutting scheduled for Dec. 17.
