The West Fargo City Commission voted Dec. 15 to approve the 2026 mass transit agreement with Fargo Metro Bus (MapBus), continuing contract service that includes two fixed routes in West Fargo and paratransit service for riders with disabilities.
Aaron Nelson, director of planning and zoning, described the renewal and recommended approval of the 2026 agreement. Assistant transit director Cole (MapBus) gave ridership figures for 2025 in West Fargo: "In 2025, we experienced 29,385 rides on Route 20" and "20,451 rides" on Route 24. He added paratransit had about "8,900 rides so far this year." The data show a modest ridership shift with Route 20 up by about 2,000 rides and Route 24 down by about 2,000 compared with prior counts.
Cole said MapBus will allocate 10 shelters to West Fargo based on ridership observations and noted six locations have been tentatively identified. He told commissioners Public Works will handle concrete pad placement and that staff hopes to install some shelters by 2026, with additional work in 2027 depending on easements and site logistics.
Commissioner Olsen moved and Commissioner Anderson seconded approval of the contract; commissioners asked for maps of proposed shelter locations and staff agreed to provide them. The motion carried by voice vote.
