The West Fargo City Commission on Dec. 15 approved the first reading of Ordinance No. 12‑67, an amendment to the city’s Floodplain Management Ordinance intended to implement changes required by the 2025 North Dakota legislation and to preserve the city’s standing in the National Flood Insurance Program.

City Engineer Jerry Wallace told the commission the state enacted changes in Senate Bill 2027 that require local updates. "We participate in the National Flood Insurance Program. We obviously want to maintain good standing with that, good standing with state statute," Wallace said while recommending the first reading of the amended ordinance.

The commission opened a public hearing and after receiving no comments moved to approve the first reading. Commissioner Anderson made the motion to approve the first reading and the motion carried by voice vote.

The first reading advances the ordinance for a subsequent hearing and action; staff said the change is primarily a statutory compliance measure and made no other immediate service or map changes.

The commission did not receive public testimony in favor or opposition during the hearing.
