Westminster commission approves routine items, hears staff updates on Lavender Pickleball, bingo permits and mall activity

Following two zoning-text items, the Westminster Planning Commission completed several administrative actions and received staff reports.
The body unanimously approved a motion to appoint Commissioner Wolbert as vice chair. The commission also voted 5-0 to cancel the planned Nov. 19 meeting after staff said there were no items currently scheduled.
Planning staff reported that an alcohol license transfer for a business identified as Lavender has been processed and that a related entertainment venue, Lavender Pickleball, had a soft opening; staff said they will coordinate an interior inspection and required zoning clearances, and said the exterior paint will be changed to a solid color per zoning clearance requirements.
Staff also described a misinterpretation of the municipal code that resulted in police issuing some bingo licenses incorrectly. Staff said they have worked with police and code enforcement to revoke licenses issued in error and that, going forward, the city will issue bingo permits only to nonprofit organizations that own or regularly lease a space where such games take place (for example, a church multipurpose room or lodge).
A commissioner raised concerns about apparent truck‑marshalling activity in the former Sears parking lot of the Westminster Mall and near Bolsa/Edwards. Planning staff said trucking would not be permitted under the Westminster Mall Specific Plan and agreed to have code enforcement investigate and report back to commissioners.
