The Waunakee Community School District board approved four course proposals Tuesday, expanding middle-school programming and adding two options at the high school.
Curriculum committee chair Tim summarized proposals to add Unified Physical Education and an English Language (EL) English course at the middle-school level, both modeled on successful high-school offerings. At the high school, the board approved AP Computer Science Principles (offered with a cybersecurity variant) and AP Seminar, the first course in the AP Capstone research sequence.
Tim said the district does not anticipate full-time-equivalent staffing impacts and described the high-school course additions as low-cost opportunities to broaden student options. "We have a lot of student interest in cybersecurity," he said, noting the field's growth and relevance.
Board members moved and approved the course list by voice vote. Administration and the curriculum office will publish syllabi and staffing plans and monitor enrollment; the district said it expects to return with implementation details in spring.
Next steps: curriculum office to publish course descriptions and align staffing so the courses can run in 2026-27 if enrollment and staffing permit.
