Chrissy Trostclair, a board member of Southdown Plantation, presented details of a new holiday attraction called the 'Portal to the North Pole' during the Nov. 19 council meeting. The event is a timed, indoor experience at the Southdown Plantation (the 'pink house' on Highway 311) that includes themed rooms, activities for children, and a vendor marketplace.
Trostclair said visitors will book one-hour time slots and travel room to room with staff-elves who escort parties in roughly five-minute rotations within the experience. Ticket price is $25 per person; children under age 1 accompanying another party are admitted free. Trostclair said early sales and vendor fees totaled about $5,000 as of the day before the meeting, and organizers plan to rent the decorated space for parties and photo sessions.
Council members expressed appreciation and encouraged promotion as part of the parish’s holiday events. Trostclair and council members noted the Southdown event will feed into a broader Terrebonne Cajun Christmas offering this year.
