The Schererville Town Council on Dec. 10 approved two right-of-way purchases to support Kennedy Avenue Phase 3 and awarded parks lawn-mowing contracts for 2026.

Council authorized purchase of Phase 3, Parcel 10 from Kennedy Avenue Outdoor Storage LLC for $34,800 and Parcel 11 (114 Kennedy Ave) for $40,200; staff said the amounts were based on appraisals plus supplemental comparable property amounts and authorized the town manager and town attorney to finalize documents.

Public works director Chad Nonberg recommended awarding the Zone 3 and large parks 2026 mowing contract to Shelton Landscaping and Snow Removal; the total 2026 mowing contract price was reported at $170,612, a decrease of $8,450 from 2025. The council approved awarding the contract. Separately, the council approved a one-year extension for Zones 1 and 2 with Harrison Lawn at the same price as 2025.

These actions allow the town to proceed with right-of-way acquisition and maintain routine maintenance contracts ahead of construction activity on Kennedy Avenue.
