Saint Mary Parish honors two special-education teachers for classroom work

The committee recognized two special-education teachers for contributions to student support and classroom practice. Jennifer Washington, a self-contained special education teacher with 18 years of experience who started as a paraeducator at Boudreaux Middle School, described her approach to individualized instruction and said her motto is, "every child learns in their own way." Chair Brianna Como and Washington introduced family and school supporters attending the meeting.
Misty Ross, a self-contained special educator at Patterson High School for six years, described her route from mental-health work to education and said she focuses on advocacy for students who need support. Miss Stansbury, speaking for the school, praised Ross’s willingness to host classroom observations, support colleagues and use research-based strategies to support student success. The committee presented plaques to both teachers and invited family and colleagues to speak briefly in their support.
The recognitions were positioned as part of the committee’s effort to highlight effective practice and build parent and community involvement in special-education programs.
