Tangipahoa Parish finance staff presented a brief budget and sales-tax update at the Nov. 18 meeting, describing a two-month fiscal snapshot and recent monthly sales-tax fluctuations.
Monthly reports: Finance staff said the fiscal year begins July 1 and the packets covered two months through Aug. 31; the presenter cautioned that early-year accruals mean those two months provide limited insight and become more relevant later in the year. Departments and salaries are visible in the new reporting format, and no board action was required.
Sales-tax detail: The presenter reported a strong month for the EFA half-penny (October reported as September sales) up 15.6% and the 2¢ tax up 13.6% for the month and 7.5% for the year-to-date. The presenter attributed part of the bump to a timing change for quarterly taxpayers and to capture of online sales after a state law change. He cautioned some of the increase is a one-time timing effect and that sustainable growth would require continued months of improvement.
Board members thanked staff and asked no formal questions requiring action; no decisions were taken.
