District updates board on social-emotional learning, Panorama data and 'character strong' curriculum use

Data and findings: Fairchild presented participation-rate improvements over three years and summarized favorable-response percentages in SEL competency areas (self-management, emotional regulation and self-efficacy). She said teachers for pre-K through second grades complete surveys for their students while grades 3–12 complete surveys directly, and that the favorable-response figures (e.g., numbers shown as 41, 36, 38 percent in presentation slides) represent the percentage of students who answered "always" or "most of the time" to competency items. She noted some schools show surprising gaps (for example, students previously recognized for achievement scoring low in self-efficacy) and described ongoing deep dives into discipline and climate data.
Next steps: The district reported increased participation in monthly school well-being meetings and expanded Character Strong usage. Fairchild said the district is scheduling deep dives at more schools, continuing trauma-informed training for staff and engaging student leadership through the Keys Alliance group. The presentation required no board action; board members thanked staff for the update and asked to be kept informed as deep-dive results and supporting data become available.
