Selma commission approves repaint and repairs for 405 N. Massey after applicant cites lead paint

The Town of Selma Appearance Commission approved a Certificate of Appropriateness for 405 North Massey Street that allows repainting the house in specified Sherwin-Williams colors and replacement of rotted soffits, fascia and some siding.
Planning staff described the request in detail, noting colors by Sherwin-Williams codes and that the owner proposed switching an existing dark red awning to a lighter palette to “bring new life, but maintain a historic look.” Staff said the work includes repainting the primary house color (SW 7011 Alabaster) and using SW 6178 Clary Sage for awnings.
Resident and applicant Samantha Patterson, who identified herself as living at 405 North Massey, told the commission the house has never been scraped during repainting cycles and that, “given the fact that it's lead paint, we'd like to encapsulate.” She said lighter paint will help newer boards blend with older ones and that green would remain an accent color.
The commission accepted testimony and evidence and passed a motion to approve the COA. The commission also authorized the chair to sign the COA and findings of fact when they become available.
No dollar amounts or contractor timelines were discussed during the hearing.
