The Town of Paradise council took several procedural and substantive votes during its meeting.
Elections and appointments: The council followed its election process to re‑elect Steve Crowder as mayor and appointed Councilmember Cullerton as vice mayor for one‑year terms. The council also filled a vacancy on the Measure B Citizens Oversight Committee by appointing Bruce (transcript recorded as "Bruce Yurman") and approved two changes to the Measure B bylaws clarifying removal for excessive absences and designating the town clerk as committee secretary.
Promotion: The council approved a reclassification and promotion of Mark Maddox from town engineer to assistant town manager after an organizational review by the interim town manager. Maddox thanked the council and staff for the opportunity.
Road rehabilitation: Public works presented two road projects. The on‑system project—7.3 miles—was authorized for advertising for bids; it is estimated at $12.7 million from FHWA Emergency Relief funds with a CDBG‑DR match. The off‑system project covers about 10.3 miles of residential roads, estimated at $10.2 million and funded through FEMA with a CDBG‑DR match. Council approved both items to proceed with plans, specifications and advertising as appropriate.
Votes at a glance: council approved the consent calendar, adopted the backyard animals ordinance (see separate story), authorized work on the workforce training grant (see separate story), adopted encroachment permit special conditions, approved committee and oversight appointments, promoted Mark Maddox, and authorized the road projects to be advertised for bids. Several votes were unanimous; where recorded, roll calls are reflected in the meeting minutes.
Staff will return to council with procedural follow-ups, including finalized ordinance language, grant‑administration details and implementation steps for the adopted items.
