Brentwood's select board on Monday reopened and approved several departmental budgets to reflect the town's 2.8% wage adjustment and to correct minor calculation errors.
Chair explained the purpose of reopening budgets (town clerk, tax collector, planning board, highway snow and ice, cemetery, welfare and library) was to apply the 2.8% wage cap and to separate certain lines (for example, overtime) as requested by departments. Julie (Town Administrator) and board members discussed a FICA calculation correction and clarified that library had already been set at 2.8% and did not need reopening.
The board moved individually to reopen and adopt the town clerk and tax collector budgets, then approved the planning board, highway (including snow and ice), cemetery and welfare budgets after review. Motions were made, seconded and passed for each item with members voting "Aye." The planning board's support was noted in an email read at the meeting urging approval. Board members also confirmed that a small reduction in the planning budget (roughly $102) was nominal and that previously agreed changes to culverts and other highway items were reflected in the highway figures.
What's next: Budget committee follow-ups and remaining departmental paperwork will be handled administratively; specific line-item questions were deferred to staff and department heads for clarification before final printing of budget packets.
Votes at a glance: town clerk budget approved; tax collector budget approved; planning board budget approved; highway (snow and ice) budget approved; cemetery and welfare budgets approved. (Exact adopted dollar amounts were read aloud in the meeting packet.)
