Board honors Sue Borchers; Hook Elementary students present 'houses' character program
Summary
The board formally recognized Sue Borchers for nearly eight years of service and heard a student-led presentation from Hook Elementary on a seven-house program used to teach monthly character traits and mentoring across grades K–5.
The Troy School District board formally recognized Sue Borchers for nearly eight years of service to the board and presented her with a certificate; members said a plaque will follow. Borchers thanked the Troy community for the opportunity to serve.
Following the recognition, Jenny Johnson, principal at Hook Elementary, introduced students who described the school’s seven "houses"—red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple and teal—used for K–5 character education. Students Henry Harvey and Shirley Perry explained that each house includes students from kindergarten through fifth grade, has three or four adult leaders and meets once a month for 45 minutes to learn a character trait through small-group discussions and activities designed to build belonging and mentoring relationships.
Board members praised the student presenters and invited families to stay for the rest of the meeting; parents and guardians were recognized in the room. The board encouraged families to attend community events and thanked Hook Elementary staff for the presentation.
