The Beaumont Planning Commission on Nov. 19 endorsed a proposed voluntary pilot program that would reserve on‑site parking spaces for Purple Heart license‑plate holders at participating businesses and shopping centers.
Staff (Kylie Preciado) described the program as a voluntary, business‑driven pilot that includes standardized signage, optional business participation, and promotional recognition on the City's website to encourage participation. The Economic Development Committee and the VFW Post 233 provided input and endorsement. Staff said signage would be standardized and supplied as guidance for participating sites and that no building permits or inspections would be required to install signs.
Enforcement was described as primarily honor‑based and managed by property owners or managers; staff said property owners could contact police or issue trespass notices if non‑qualified drivers occupy spaces. Commissioners supported the concept as a low‑cost way to honor veterans and recommended forwarding a resolution to Council to authorize program launch and outreach to the business community.
