Sumter County welcomes 2025–26 Emerging Leaders class
Summary
County economic development staff introduced the 2025–26 Emerging Leaders class of 17 eleventh-grade students from Sumter and Lee County schools, a partnership with the University of South Carolina Sumter that awards three credit hours and places seniors on boards and committees.
Erica Williams of the county economic development team introduced the 2025–26 Emerging Leaders class at the meeting and called students to stand for recognition. Williams described the program as an 11th-grade leadership course run in partnership with the University of South Carolina Sumter that awards three credit hours; students serve on local boards and committees during their senior year.
Williams named students from Thomas Sumter Academy, Sumter High School and Lakewood High School and said the class includes 17 participants this year. She invited the students to take a commemorative photo at the end of the meeting and thanked council for supporting the learning opportunity.
