Resident urges Muncie to resume pavement preservation; board agrees to follow up

"I just wanted to check-in again on pavement preservation," Bishop said, recounting that the city had performed annual pavement preservation work in 2020 and 2021 and some work in early 2023 but that large-scale crack sealing has not been done more recently. He said the prior program limited future pavement degradation on recently paved city streets and asked whether the city intended to bring it back.
The presiding officer responded that he would look into the program, make contacts, and see what could be done. No formal action, funding commitment or timeline was provided at the meeting.
Bishop named specific streets where limited preservation had occurred in recent years, including Wheeling, Bar Avenue and Walnut Street, and said some projects received lane-level seal coating rather than full crack sealing.
The board did not vote or direct staff to a specific course of action during the public comment period; the presiding officer said he would follow up.
