Colleton County Council approves E‑911 backup funding, road maintenance abandonment with cemetery access preserved, and partnership to remove derelict vessels

The council voted to adopt Resolution 25R‑68 to authorize the county administrator to expend funds for the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office to purchase E‑911 backup center batteries and to cover a CDR training course for dispatch staff. The motion was moved and seconded and passed by voice vote.
Council then considered Resolution 25R‑69, which would abandon county maintenance on certain roads on property owned by Weyerhaeuser Forest Holdings, Inc. During discussion a council member asked about access to a cemetery located on the edge of the property, noting that families and church members need to reach gravesites. County staff referenced a letter in the meeting materials that states the landowner will retain access; after that clarification the resolution carried unanimously.
The council also approved Resolution 25R‑70 to form a partnership with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources to assist with removal of derelict and abandoned vessels under South Carolina Code of Laws, Title 50, Chapter 21, Article 2. The motion carried by voice vote.
