The Oconee County Board of Zoning Appeals on Nov. 24 approved a variance (VA25-000019) granting relief from section 38-10.2 (rear setback) for an addition to a residence on Lake Cherokee owned by David Irvin (TMS O052-03-06-010; address listed in the packet as 331 Time Out Place).
David Irvin, who identified himself as the property owner, said he has owned the lake property about 40 years and described the house as an older structure originally built over a boathouse. He told the board he plans to add 4 feet at the rear and extend roughly 32 feet to the side to create a master bedroom suite and new kitchen and to keep the living space on one level for handicap access, noting, “I’m 75 years old.” Irvin said the Lake Cherokee architectural committee and lake board had approved his plan.
A staff member told the board that neighbors submitted letters included in the backup materials and that Irvin had requested two separate variances but the second request had not been properly advertised; the staff announced a special meeting on Dec. 17 at 6 p.m. to address the second variance. Board members recorded motions and seconds on the four required findings for a variance, and after no extended discussion voted to approve VA25-000019.
The board did not state additional conditions on the record. The applicant’s plan and photographs were referenced and reportedly uploaded to staff records; the transcript notes neighborhood concern through submitted letters but no public commenter spoke during this item.
