Rescue squads report elections, new members and equipment updates across Oconee County

Members and chiefs from Oconee County's rescue regions updated the commission on elections, recruitment and equipment, reporting new leadership, recruitment successes and scheduled trainings.
Region 1 reported recent elections, a pending rescue-commission seat to be filled at an upcoming Oakway Rescue meeting, and community fundraisers including a yard sale and pancake breakfast at Maranatha Church on Kiwi School Road. Region 2 said a successful October fundraiser raised funds for the children's Christmas project and announced three new EMRs running calls.
Region 3/5 noted elections with a new chief and assistant chief and multiple units responding to calls; Rescue 4 reported a new applicant. Region 7 (the dive team) held nominations for leadership posts, scheduled sonar and dry-suit refreshers and planned an inventory/service day; boat training in September identified service needs and parts were ordered. Special rescue and Rescue 8 reported they purchased Active 911 for team use and will hold early elections due to Thanksgiving scheduling.
On equipment, Speaker 4 said the Salem rescue truck arrived after a recall repair and the department is seeking a vendor to install a nine-foot retractable bed cover and graphics; light installations are being scheduled with the sheriff's office vehicle queue. Several units reported strong response-rate improvements and new training opportunities through partnerships with SC EMS Association and VFIS driving-instructor programs.
Commissioners did not take formal votes on the regional updates; the reports primarily served to inform commissioners and to request follow-up on logistics and equipment procurement timelines.
