The Bernards Township School District Board of Education on Monday reviewed a finance committee report that lays out a five‑year capital plan totaling approximately $36,000,000 and approved routine consent agenda items, including finance and personnel motions, by roll call.
The board's finance committee reported withdrawals to pay for the varsity field, a roof project and the track, and said the district expects to seek Regular Operating District (ROD) grants and debt service aid that could reimburse up to 40% of eligible project costs. Finance chair (Speaker 7) also told the board the district is reviewing long‑term debt options with Brian Morris of Phoenix Advisors as existing obligations are paid down.
"The 5 year capital plan totals approximately 36,000,000," the finance committee report stated, and the committee signaled continued work to ensure transparency with the community. The finance report also noted improvements in health‑care rebates for September, the annual audit has begun, and several operational items are underway, including a new phone system and the district's transition to the CSI accounting and payroll system.
Board members voted by roll call to approve the finance recommendations. A separate consent motion carried to approve 27 personnel items, and other routine motions — including approval of the meeting minutes — were also passed by voice/roll call as recorded.
The finance committee said the district will pilot a simplified family payment option that replaces the previous 5% transaction fee with a flat annual fee: families may choose a $12 or $26 annual option. The committee also discussed BA merit goals and potential naming‑rights sponsorship for fields; no final sponsorship decision was announced.
The board did not set project start dates in the finance discussion; it said further planning and coordination will continue. The items approved at Monday's meeting were routine consent and committee recommendations; the board expects to return with additional budget and implementation details as projects advance.
