Board members voted 6–0 to add two mandatory professional-development days to the 2025–26 calendar — Jan. 5 and Feb. 27 — which will reduce the number of student days by two. District staff emphasized the days will be structured and mandatory. "Teachers are feeling very overwhelmed right now," said a district staff speaker participating in the discussion, arguing the days are needed for alignment on new state standards and building-level work.
The board also approved adding an additional special services teacher for Lee Center. Administrators said several high-needs students recently moved into that attendance area, increasing required service hours; the position will be covered using SPED funds that had not been fully expended. The motion to add the teacher passed 6–0.
Separately, trustees voted to pay the ACT test fee for 11th-grade students. Board members presented the move as a direct student-support action to remove a financial barrier to testing; that motion likewise passed 6–0.
No further action was required at the meeting. The calendar change and staffing addition will be implemented according to district procedures and budget allotments; the board discussed sharing calendar updates with families promptly.
