The Board of Commissioners approved establishing a restricted donation account dedicated to the Sheriff’s Office and accepted a $1,000 donation from John Riley Construction.
County staff recommended a separate restricted account so funds given for specific sheriff programs (for example, Shop With a Cop or youth advisory efforts) are easy to track and spend only for the intended purposes. One commissioner noted restricted funds require a designated purpose and that undesignated donations should be brought back to the board for approval before spending.
The board approved creation of the restricted account and accepted the $1,000 donation by voice vote. County staff confirmed the practice matches how other restricted funds are handled (for example, the SAFE and Youth Advisory Fund) and that donors and the sheriff’s office will be able to check balances easily through the restricted account.
