Commission authorizes several hires and a park superintendent pay grade increase

During routine business, the St. Francois County Commission approved several personnel actions on Dec. 1.
Speaker 3 described long-standing turnover in the prosecutor’s receptionist position and clarified that the county will list the role as a legal secretary/legal assistant. The commission authorized filling that vacancy and directed staff to post the position.
The commission also authorized beginning the hiring process for investigator positions in the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office; commissioners noted the budget implications and that hires would be reflected after Jan. 1 in the next fiscal year’s budget. Separately, the commission granted permission to fill a vacant deputy-clerk/records position and to begin cross-training to replace departing staff.
On parks staffing, the commission voted to raise Mike Sumter’s park superintendent classification to grade 9 and set the listed salary at $50,984.93, with commissioners citing his grant-writing and hands-on park work.
All personnel motions were approved by voice vote. Hiring and classification updates now move to departmental HR procedures for recruitment and payroll updates.
