During the consent discussion, an unnamed commissioner (Speaker 2) highlighted that the county is applying for federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds to assist low‑income residents with costly septic replacements. "We're applying for some CDBG money that would help low income people out there in the county with very expensive septic replacements," Speaker 2 said, noting this would be a new approach for the county.
County staff (Speaker 5) said the office had received several comments on the public feedback page and that most were in support and emphasized local need. "We have received several comments on the voice page, and I think most of them are in support and saying there's a need," Speaker 5 said.
A board member (Speaker 4) cautioned that available funding would be limited, estimating roughly "500,000 something," and noted far more septic systems likely need replacement than that sum would cover. "Way more septics out there that need to be replaced than that," Speaker 4 said.
Speaker 4 moved to approve the consent agenda notwithstanding item 8; Speaker 2 seconded the motion and the board voted "Aye." Item 8 was deferred to the next meeting.
The county did not announce a firm timeline for CDBG award decisions during the meeting; staff said they would check the application timeline and follow up.
