State comparison flags six St. Francois County voter records for review, commissioners say

A county official told the St. Francois County Commission that the Missouri secretary of state’s office compared the county registered-voter list to records of noncitizens and identified six registrations that will be examined.

"Of all the thousands that we have registered in Saint Francis County, we have 6 that will have to be looked into," Speaker 3 said, adding that the identification does not mean those records are necessarily ineligible and that some could be naturalized citizens. The official described the standard roll‑maintenance process: records are followed up with mailed notices and, after two federal-election cycles with required mailings and nonresponse, counties may inactivate and later remove registrants who do not respond.

The speaker and others noted this is a new or more active use of the state comparison process and said the checks had not been done in the past to the same degree. No specific names or records were read into the public record at the meeting, and the commission did not take any formal enforcement action during the session.

What happens next: county election officials will review the flagged records and follow statutory notice procedures before any change in registration status. The commission’s comments emphasized investigation rather than a determination of ineligibility.
