The Sioux Falls School Board on Dec. 8 approved a resolution to hold the district’s 2026 regular school board election on the June primary day, aligning its schedule with Minnehaha and Lincoln county primaries.

Mr. Veek summarized a recent state-law change requiring local regular elections to be held either on a primary or general election day and asked trustees to adopt a resolution designating June 2, 2026 as the election date. He outlined the key timeline: nominating petitions may be circulated beginning Feb. 2, the last day to file a petition is March 24, absentee voting begins April 17, the voter-registration deadline is May 18, in-person absentee voting ends June 1, the election is June 2, and the board will canvass results June 22 with new terms beginning July 7 at the annual meeting.
