A sheriff’s representative reported the proposal was to replace 32 vests and carriers at an estimated total cost of $37,400 and that the LERF group had approved the use of those funds pending commission authorization. The county discussed using the LERF as matching funds if the federal grant is not approved.
County staff explained the JustGrants grant covers 50% of the ballistic vest cost; the meeting noted the vest portion of the purchase would be about $26,400 with a projected reimbursement of $13,200 if the grant is approved. Commissioners discussed grant coordination and asked that grant applications be routed through the county grant coordinator. The board approved permission for the sheriff to pursue the grant and approved use of LERF funds as presented.
Officials noted the JustGrants application deadline cited in the meeting was Dec. 19 and that staff would report back when grant results were known.
