The Virginia Beach City Council approved its consent agenda and a series of appointments Tuesday and recognized a longtime police official before moving to public hearings.
Vice Mayor read three consent ordinances: acceptance of a U.S. Department of Homeland Security grant of $110,000 with an $11,000 local match for fire-department fitness and health equipment; an additional DHS grant of $46,875 with a $15,625 local match for the Fire Department’s marine team; and an appropriation of $94,000 from forfeited-assets to continue the Commonwealth Attorney’s digital case-file initiative. Council moved, seconded and approved the consent agenda by recorded vote, 10 to 0.
Council also approved a slate of appointments across advisory bodies, including an appointment to the Active Transportation Advisory Committee and reappointments to historic preservation and other commissions as read by the vice mayor. The council adopted a resolution honoring a police official for 37 years of service; the retiree addressed the chamber to thank colleagues and family.
There were no speakers for the public hearings listed for the night and the council moved on to agenda review and an announced closed session certification.
