Lisa Kennedy was elected president of the York City School District board in a 5–4 roll call vote at the board’s Dec. 1 annual reorganization meeting, and Tynisha Wilkes was elected vice president by the same margin.
The meeting opened with solicitor Jeff Gettle calling the reorganization meeting to order and the holdover members conducting an initial roll call. Holdover members then nominated and approved Diane Glover Brown as temporary president for the meeting by a voice vote. The board read certificates of election for four newly elected directors — Lisa Kennedy, Tynisha Wilkes, Margie Orr and Ayesha Beatty White — and each completed the oath of office during the session.
"I, Lisa Kennedy, do solemnly swear or affirm that I will support, obey, and defend the Constitution of the United States and the constitution of this commonwealth and that I will discharge the duties of my office with fidelity," Kennedy recited as she took the oath.
After the oaths, the full board held roll call votes for its officer positions. Nominations for president were Lisa Kennedy and Margie Orr; the secretary announced a 5–4 tally in favor of Kennedy. Nominations for vice president were Tynisha Wilkes and Margie Orr; the secretary announced a 5–4 tally in favor of Wilkes. The board did not publish detailed individual ballot records beyond the roll-call responses given aloud during the vote.
Board members were told they would receive a committee-selection grid and should return preferences to the board secretary; committee assignments and board representative appointments will be finalized at the board’s next meeting on Dec. 17. The board also reviewed committee and board meeting dates and approved the calendar as presented, with the caveat that the calendar could be revised and the public would be notified of changes.
The meeting closed with no public comments on agenda items. The board took a short executive session and then planned to meet with cabinet members for dinner.
Minutes for the meeting will include the certificates of election and the signed oaths of office.
