Trail of Tears gazebo project rebid planned after bids come in over budget

According to staff, the city has already contributed about $40,000 in cash to the project and estimates roughly another $15,000 in in-kind electrical work from the city’s licensed electrician. Staff recommended rejecting the initial bids and proceeding with a reduced-scope design and rebid to keep the project within available resources.
Board members said they want to see the project continue but emphasized careful spending given the shortfall. Staff will revise the scope and request new bids in an attempt to deliver a gazebo within the funds already committed and reasonable additional cost.
Next steps: engineers and staff will prepare a reduced-scope bid package and advertise new bids; the board will review responses and award when a compliant, budget-aligned bid is available.
