Superintendent Dr. Sylvia Zertjes told the South River Board of Education the district is rolling out audiovisual upgrades at school auditoriums and cafetoriums, building a modular press box at Denny Stadium with live-streaming capability, and beginning 2026–27 budget preparations; a district improvement plan and graduation results will be shared publicly.
Dr. Sylvia Zertjes, superintendent of schools, told the South River Board of Education on Nov. 17 that the district is installing new audiovisual equipment across the high school auditorium and cafetoriums and will standardize district communications before transitioning away from ad hoc teacher tools.
"We have some audio visual upgrades, at our high school auditorium, our primary school cafetorium, elementary and middle school cafetorium as well," Zertjes said, adding the upgrades will support instruction, assemblies and community facility use. She said the district will notify staff and families in advance before adopting any unified messaging tools to replace popular platforms such as Dojo or Remind.
Zertjes also announced a new modular press box for Denny Stadium designed to provide dedicated spaces for home and visiting coaches and press members and to support a huddle camera for live streaming. "The new structure will feature dedicated spaces for the home team coaches, visiting coaches, and, press members as well, and really create just a more, professional environment for game management and coverage," she said.
On budgeting, Zertjes said building and department teams are drafting the proposed budget for the 2026–27 school year but that specific funding levels for state aid and federal allocations remain unclear: officials will adjust the plan as more information becomes available. She asked community members with budget questions to contact assistant business administrator Camilla Miyazio.
Zertjes introduced the district improvement plan for the 2025–26 school year and said Dr. Trivizano would present required high school graduation results at the meeting and that materials will be posted to the district website.
The presentation on graduation requirements described the district's credit and pathway expectations — for example, 20 credits in English and 15 in mathematics — and noted portfolio assessments as an alternative pathway for demonstrating proficiency in some subjects. The superintendent also noted one confirmed HIB incident listed on the agenda for review.
