An independent audit of the Shawnee Mission School District’s financial statements for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2025, resulted in an unmodified opinion, district officials and the audit principal told the board.
Kayla Williams, audit principal with BT and Company, told the board that her firm concluded the audit with an unmodified opinion — the highest level of assurance — and found no significant disagreements with management, no matters requiring consultation, and no material inconsistencies in the district’s accompanying informational sections. Williams said the single-audit also received an unmodified opinion, and that audited major federal programs produced no reportable findings this year.
Chief Financial Officer Russell Knapp and Superintendent Schumacher thanked the finance team and auditors for the work. Board members asked about the frequency of unmodified opinions and about the complexity of managing many funds; Williams said most districts receive unmodified opinions but noted the degree of effort required to produce accurate fund accounting.
The board accepted the presentation and thanked the finance staff; no findings requiring corrective action were presented in this year’s report.
