On Dec. 8 the Tangipahoa Parish Council read returns and adopted resolutions canvassing results of special elections held Nov. 15, 2025, including a proposed renewal of a 4-mil ad valorem tax to fund parish health units and multiple propositions to renew 10-mil ad valorem taxes for various road lighting districts.
Clerks reported vote totals for the propositions (for example: 4,923 votes in favor / 5,438 against on one proposition mentioned on the agenda presentation and other district counts ranging by dozens to hundreds). For each proposition where the returns were read and canvassed, the council adopted a resolution declaring the results and then, where applicable, adopted resolutions directing renewal, levy and collection of the approved ad valorem taxes for 10 years beginning in 2027 and ending in 2036. The council’s roll-call votes on these implementing resolutions were recorded as unanimous where recorded (10–0).
Council members noted these items required no additional action beyond canvass and resolution adoption. Several specific districts—Road Lighting Districts 2, 4 and 7—were discussed by reading vote totals and adopting the corresponding canvass and levy resolutions. The council did not record substantive debate about the underlying tax policy during the meeting.
